This hotel has been on my list of places to discover<\/strong>, since its opening 18 months ago, following several articles in the best decoration magazines<\/strong> and prestigious \u201cRewards\u201d<\/strong> like\u00a0<\/span> Cond\u00e9 Nast Traveler 2019<\/a>\u00a0which nominated it as the \u201cTop resort in Europe\u201d<\/strong> or Departures Magazine<\/a> \u201cBest experience in terms of well-being”<\/strong>,\u00a0 <\/span>Architecture Masterprize Awards<\/a>\u00a0“Best design of the year”<\/strong>\u00a0\u2026describing it as one of the best hotels of the world.<\/p>\n

When it came to planning out a last-minute weekend in Iceland, naturally I chose the\u00a0<\/span>Retreat Hotel at Blue Lagoon\u00a0<\/a>!\u00a0<\/strong>It\u2019s definitely the best way of visiting the South of Iceland, while maintaining optimum comfort with one of the best spas.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The hotel is located in the axis, which prolongs the main Blue Lagoon<\/strong> (one of the key attractions around Reykjavik) and is made up of 62 suites, facing the lagoon and the lava fields, which surround it.<\/p>\n

The spa<\/strong> is dug in the lava and is an essential asset of this hotel,<\/strong> that is devoted to relaxation and well-being. The experience is a lot like a spa treatment, with a variety of treatments but I mostly liked:<\/p>\n

\u00a0– Hot stone massages<\/strong> (very pleasant)<\/p>\n

\u00a0– Face treatment<\/strong><\/p>\n

– A massage in Blue Lagoon\u2019s water in 39 degrees<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, an unprecedented experience! The concept being: you need to lie down on a floating mat with a cover so that you get cold, and a therapist takes you around the lagoon, while massaging you.<\/strong> The feeling is quite surreal, but feeling weightless during the massage, is a unique feeling! \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The biggest asset of the spa<\/strong> is that one can swim in 900 square meters of a private Blue Lagoon<\/strong>, any time during the day and tables are at the disposal in the Lagoon to say cheers with some bubbly.<\/p>\n

This way, one avoids the crowd of the main Blue Lagoon and bathing becomes a ritual.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The various spaces of the spa has several intimate spots to revitalize<\/strong> and there is also a \u201chealthy\u201d restaurant<\/strong> which will be a major treat for your taste buds, with a wonderful view of the lagoon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The hotel\u2019s client<\/strong> is almost international, mainly American<\/strong> with a lot of New Yorkers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Indeed, the furniture<\/strong> is in keeping with the environment<\/strong>, with a refined decoration signed B&B Italia<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0and omnipresent lava walls.<\/strong> The many high bay windows open up the spaces towards the exterior with a panorama over looking the lagoon and the lava fields covered with green moss.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Teatime<\/strong> (included in the rate of the room) at 4 pm is very pleasant, when one comes back from an excursion.<\/p>\n

The Moss restaurant<\/strong><\/a> is a gourmet restaurant of the hotel<\/strong> with a menu that is made up of 5 or 7 fixed dishes. Honestly, it\u2019s best spot where I have eaten in Iceland as the other restaurants around, are really not refined. It\u2019s possible to visit their exceptional wine cellar<\/strong>\u00a0in the basement at the end of the meal. It is built in lava with more the 5\u00a0000 references.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
